    The City of Elk Grove is currently accepting applications for

    COMMUNITY CENTER ATTENDANT (PART-TIME)

    Are you looking for a part-time, flexible work schedule where you can make a difference in the Elk Grove community?

    The City of Elk Grove is currently hiring Community Center Attendants who are dedicated to providing exceptional customer service skills, show great attention to detail, and who like to assist customers with their use of facilities and private rental spaces within District56. This is a part-time, at-will, non-benefited position which works approximately 19 hours per week.

    Primary Responsibilities Include:
    • Provide superior customer service to building visitors and potential clients at the front desk.
    • Perform heavy repetitive physical work including the lifting, moving and set-up of tables, chairs, audio-visual materials, and other furniture and equipment.
    • Minor janitorial duties that may include cleaning and sanitizing, sweeping, mopping floors, emptying trash containers, and restocking restroom facilities during events.
    • Operate stage and room light controls, computer, audio and visual equipment, and demonstrates accurate use to visitors. (On the job training is provided.)
    • Secure building during closing which includes returning equipment to its proper place, turning off lights, and locking the facility after use.
    • Shifts may be outside regular business hours (early mornings, late nights, weekends, and some holidays) to accommodate events.
    • Other tasks as assigned.

    Representative Duties

    DEFINITION

    Under general supervision, performs a variety of clerical and customer service duties in support of the Community Center/ District56 campus customers and operations ; interacts with and provides information, assistance, and tours to the community and customers related to District56 campus use and related rules and regulations; moves and arranges furniture and equipment to set up for events ; provides staff support during scheduled events; performs light custodial work; and performs related duties as assigned.

    SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

    Receives general supervision from assigned management or supervisory personnel . Exercises no direct supervision over staff.

    CLASS CHARACTERISTICS

    This journey level classification is responsible for independently performing clerical and facilit ies duties in support of Community Center events, customers, and operations. Positions at this level exercise judgment and initiative in their assigned tasks, receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.

    EXAMPLES OF TYPICAL JOB FUNCTIONS (Illustrative Only)

    • Provides customer service and information about the District56 campus, services, events, and activities .
    • Opens, sets up, takes down, inspects, and closes facilities for scheduled events such as public and private rentals, meetings, and special events ; arranges furniture and equipment and ensures set up is in accordance with customer needs and requests.
    • Welcomes patrons, visitors, and the community to the District56 campus; conducts facility tours and provides information related to facility use, reservations, and related activities,


    • Assists customers using District56 facilities as requested ; explains and enforces facility policies, rules, and regulations.
    • Monitors the proper and safe use of District56 facilities and equipment by the community and ensures adherence to rules and policies ; collaborates with private security officers during events to ensure a safe environment is maintained .
    • Processes facility reservation requests for the District56 campus; communicates with scheduled groups to confirm use of facilities.
    • Provides staff support at special events and festivals.
    • Removes trash in and around buildings; performs minor custodial/maintenance duties including but not limited to sweeping/mopping floors, wiping tables, picking up litter, and replacing paper goods; identifies and reports building maintenance needs to appropriate staff .
    • Maintains accurate schedule and records of work performed and materials and equipment used ; assists with inventory of facility supplies and equipment.
    • Observes and complies with City and mandated safety rules, regulations, and protocols.
    • Performs related duties as assigned.


    Qualifications

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Knowledge of:

    • Operations, services and activities of the District56 campus.
    • Methods and techniques of maintaining the safety of community center facilities and related use areas.
    • Principles and procedures of recordkeeping.
    • Methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial work and basic and preventative building maintenance.
    • Proper cleaning methods and the safe usage of cleaning materials, disinfectants, custodial tools, and equipment.
    • Techniques for effectively representing the City in contacts with governmental agencies, community groups, and various business, professional, educational, regulatory, and legislative organizations.
    • Recent and on-going developments, current literature, and sources of information related to the operations of the assigned division.


    • Methods and techniques of preparing technical and administrative reports, and general business correspondence.
    • City and mandated safety rules, regulations, and protocols.
    • Techniques for providing a high level of customer service by effectively dealing with the public, vendors, contractors, and City staff.
    • Diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging concepts and principles, including their significance in organizational dynamics and functioning of the City and their impact on fostering innovation and collaboration.
    • The structure and content of the English language at a level necessary to successfully perform the duties assigned.
    • Current equipment and communication tools used for business functions and program, project, and task coordination, including computers and software programs relevant to work performed.


    Ability to:

    • Provide courteous assistance and accurate information to patrons and the community.
    • Serve as a resource to the community on District56 campus operations, activities, and use.
    • Set up rooms and facilities for public and private rentals, special events, and meetings.
    • Lift and move tables and chairs, operate an audio-visual system with training, understand how to read and create a layout map for events.

    • Monitor events in progress; identify potential issues, situations, and customer needs and provide timely resolution.
    • Maintain facilities and equipment in a clean, safe, and secure manner.
    • Identify custodial and maintenance needs and perform minor custodial/maintenance duties.

    • Effectively use computer systems, software applications relevant to work performed, and modern business equipment to perform a variety of work tasks.

    Education and Experience:

    Completion of the twelfth (12 th ) grade . Experience in a customer service, hospitality, or facility related field such as a facility attendant/monitor, customer service agent in the event planning, hospitality, retail, food service, or recreation industry, or other similar field with significant customer service contact is desired but not required .

    Licenses and Certifications:

    • Possession of, or ability to obtain by the time of appointment, an appropriate valid California driver’s license. This requirement may be waived for individuals who are unable to obtain a driver’s license due to a disability.


    Physical Demands and Work Environment

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    When assigned to an office environment:

    Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer, and to operate a motor vehicle to visit various City and meeting sites; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. Standing in and walking between work areas is frequently required. Must be able to lift and move tables and chairs. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate standard office equipment. Positions in this classification frequently bend, stoop, kneel, and reach to perform assigned duties, as well as push and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects up to 30pounds. Reasonable accommodations will be made for individuals with disabilities who are qualified to perform essential functions of a position or positions within this classification.

    When assigned to an outdoor environment:

    Must possess mobility to sit, stand, and walk on level, uneven, or slippery surfaces; to reach, twist, turn, kneel, bend, stoop, squat, crouch, and grasp; strength, stamina, and mobility to perform light to medium physical work; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person, before groups, and over the telephone or radio. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 30pounds, or heavier weights with the use of proper equipment and assistance from other staff.     ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

    Employees predominately work in an office environment with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions, and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. Employees may work outdoors and occasionally be exposed to loud noise levels, cold and hot temperatures, inclement weather conditions, road hazards, vibration, mechanical and/or electrical hazards, and hazardous chemical substances and fumes. Employees may interact with members of the public or with staff under emotionally stressful conditions while interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Employees may be expected to work extended hours, weekends, evenings, and holidays as required.
