    Job Description

    The Position

    Why Join the Contra Costa County Assessor’s Office?
    Contra Costa County is one of the largest employers in the area offering multiple career opportunities in public service. The Contra Costa County Assessor’s Office discovers and assesses all property within the County; produces and delivers an assessment roll by July 1 of each year; values all real property; audits all entities doing business in the County and values all taxable personal property; establishes and maintains a set of 12,800 maps for assessment purposes; delineates every parcel of land in the County; and provides a public information service to assist taxpayers with questions about property ownership and assessment.

    This recruitment will be used to fill one (1) Principal Appraiser vacancy.

    • Overseeing a division of the Assessor’s Office
    • Assisting with the creation and development of County appraisal policies
    • Advising and assisting, directly and indirectly, in the supervision of office staff

    • Reviewing processes and workflows within a division and implementing changes to improve efficiency and quality

    Minimum Qualifications

    License Required: Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Out of state valid motor vehicle operator's license will be accepted during the application process.

    Certificate: Possession of a valid Appraiser's Certificate issued by the State Board of Equalization.

    Experience: Five (5) years of full-time or its equivalent experience in appraising real and/or personal property in a California County Assessor's Office, or in a state or federal agency in California responsible for appraising property, at least two (2) years of which must have been at the level of Supervising Appraiser or Supervising Auditor-Appraiser in Contra Costa County

    Selection Process

    Application Filing and Evaluation: Applications will be evaluated to determine which candidates will move forward in the next phase of the recruitment process. Remote Oral Board Interview: Candidates who possess the minimum qualifications will be invited via email to complete a remote oral board interview. The assessment will measure candidates' competencies as they relate to the job. In the assessment, candidates must achieve an average passing score of 70% or higher on each of the competencies and an overall passing score of 70% or higher. These may include any of the competencies listed in the above job description. (Weight 100%)

    DISASTER SERVICE WORKER

    All Contra Costa County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law. Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
