    Job Summary

    The Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Student Achievement Program (ASAP) at Sonoma State University is a grant-funded program housed in the Office of Institutional Equity and Belonging within the Division of Student Affairs. ASAP offers culturally relevant curricular and co-curricular services and programs that are designed to enhance AANHPI students’ educational experiences and increase the enrollment, persistence, retention, and graduation of low-income, underserved, and first-generation AANHPI students. Sonoma State University’s ASAP program is part of the larger California State University Asian American, Native Hawaiian & Pacific Islander Student Achievement Program (CSU ASAP), which was authorized by the California Education Code Section 89297.1 in 2022. ASAP is a grant-funded program and operates using multi-year funding from CSU ASAP.

    Reporting to the Director of Institutional Equity and Belonging, the AANHPI Student Achievement Program Director is responsible for planning and managing the operational and programmatic needs of the ASAP program to support the retention, persistence, and academic success of AANHPI students at Sonoma State, and supervises staff and student personnel. As the primary administrator for ASAP and the AANHPI grant, the incumbent is responsible for overseeing the ASAP budget and grant; ensuring operational effectiveness and compliance with university, program, and grant policies; designing, developing, implementing, assessing, and continuously improving ASAP’s culturally relevant co-curricular programs to support AANHPI student success; and managing ASAP program operations and personnel. The incumbent works closely in partnership and in collaboration with on- and off-campus partners, including the ASAP Faculty Coordinator and ASAP Planning Committee, to ensure that all curricular and co-curricular program activities for ASAP align with the provisions of CSU ASAP and the California Education Code. As a member of the Office of Institutional Equity and Belonging, this position plays a key role in advancing the University's equity, inclusion, and student success priorities.

    Key Qualifications

    This position requires three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in higher education leadership, student success, academic program development, or a related area, including one (1) year of progressively responsible and applicable management and supervisory experience. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Ethnic Studies, Asian American Studies, Education, Public administration, or a closely related field. Master’s degree preferred. Doctorate (Ed.D., Ph.D., or equivalent) in a relevant field highly preferred.

    Salary and Benefits

    Starting salary placement depends on qualifications and experience and is anticipated to be in the range of $6,250 - $7,084 a month. This position is a member of the Management Personnel Plan and serves at the pleasure of the President.

    This position is eligible for a broad range of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurances, retirement (CalPERS), tuition waiver, vacation and sick leave. In addition, 15 paid holidays are offered each year and a Personal Holiday that may be taken any time during the year.
