    Job Description

    As a Senior Resource Specialist in the Bay-Delta Initiatives (BDI) Group at the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD), you will provide your technical, policy, and administrative expertise in the San Francisco Bay and Sacramento-San Joaquin Watershed (Bay-Delta) in support of MWD’s mission to provide its service area with adequate, reliable and high-quality water supplies in an environmentally and economically responsible manner. Incumbents in this position will serve as a technical expert representing MWD in science and management forums for the Bay-Delta's highly specialized and complex water programs to ensure that Metropolitan meet the agency’s water supply needs in the near and longer-term.

    This position may include activities and responsibilities related to conducting and collaborating in scientific research, publishing scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals and provide technical advice on policies and regulations related to water resource management in the Bay-Delta. It is the responsibility of the position to ensure that the level of service and support provided meets the appropriate standards and objectives for quality, efficiency, productivity, with technical sophistication and integrity.

    Key responsibilities include providing technical expertise and review, project management, project development, assessing environmental issues and resource needs, establishing priorities and schedules, cost estimation, and grant administration (including budget and data management tracking and reporting). Incumbents will be expected to represent Metropolitan in key multi-agency meetings related to science, regulatory, water operations, and water policy proceedings. Desirable areas of expertise include, but are not limited to, climate change, biology, fisheries, anadromous fish, water quality, estuarine hydrodynamics, modeling, habitat restoration, water resources, and structured decision making.

    Schedule: 44/36, Monday through Friday /Every other Friday off. Monday through Thursday 9 hours per day, 8 hours per day every other Friday. Start times are no earlier than 6am and end times are no later than 6pm.

    Hybrid: Metropolitan’s current practice in this position is a hybrid work schedule. This typically includes two days a week in person at the Sacramento Office, 1121 L Street, Suite 900, Sacramento, CA and the other days remote. This is subject to change dependent on organizational needs. In addition, a telework policy is scheduled for negotiations and once completed and implemented, will provide final direction on the hybrid schedule.

    EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
    Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, majoring in Business Administration, Economics, Environmental Sciences, Urban Planning, Geology, Geography, Hydrology, or other directly related field, and 8 years of progressively responsible experience in policy development, project management, resource negotiations, and development and implementation of solutions to complex problems related to water resources.

    DESIRABLES: At least 5+ years’ experience in a related scientific field including especially aquatic systems with a preference for Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta and its management issues. Has a strong track record of scientific publications, grant funding acquisition and administration. Has an advanced degree in a STEM field, experience with public agencies, experience planning and permitting, and a passion to fulfill MWD’s mission.

    CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS
    License(s): Valid California Class C Driver’s License or equivalent (required at time of application) that allows you to drive during your employment.
