Job Description

GENERAL PURPOSE:

The successful Youth Athletic CARA Coach is responsible for overall organization and coaching of the team at Winona Pool. All offers are conditional upon a satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check and pre-employment drug screen.

The salary range for this position is $17.00 - $20.47 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.

Position will remain open until filled.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Conducts early morning swim team practices to enhance the swimming ability of all team members.
  • Responsible for the safety of swim team members while practicing or participating in a meet.
  • Ensures that the only people in the pool during swim team practices are registered team members.
  • Coordinates car-pooling to swim meets, recruiting necessary volunteers to assist with activities and meets.
  • Attends CARA meetings as scheduled.
  • Attends meets held at facilities other than Winona Pool


OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • May be required to cross train into other areas for duties as assigned.


SUPERVISORY DUTIES:
  • Assist with the supervision of any volunteer coaches who may be working with team members.
  • Supervises all program practices and team members.


JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

Must possess superior knowledge of proper swim stroke techniques and competitive swim training techniques. Must interact diplomatically with youth, parents and other staff members. Demonstrate the skills of good judgment and patience, and schedule workouts and meets. Must react quickly and correctly in emergency situations and will be required to perform the necessary lifesaving procedures. Must make sound judgments, exercise conflict resolution, and exhibit patience when dealing with stressful and/or disciplinary situations. Responsible for ensuring the safety of all participants in their swimming classes by safe and proper usage of equipment and facilities. Must report to work area wearing appropriate swim clothing and attend regularly scheduled staff meetings as required.

Education and/or experience:

A minimum of 2 years of prior swimming experience required. Competitive swimming experience preferred.

Licensure and/or certifications:

Current Lifeguarding and WSI certification preferred.

Current CPR and First Aid certification required or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire date required.

Working conditions and physical requirements:

Must possess the physical stamina to effectively demonstrate safe and proper swimming technique to participants. Work is performed in a public pool environment; expect exposure to noisy, distracting and stressful situations as well as exposure to various pool and cleaning chemical smells while performing duties. Requires standing for long periods, walking, bending, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, moving and positioning up to 50 pounds. Must be available to work early mornings, some evenings, weekend, and holiday hours.
