Salary Range: The Lecturer (Academic Year -Range 4) classification salary is $74,280 to $158,064 per academic year (paid as 12 monthly payments). The anticipated hiring range is $76,800 to $81,600 per year. Salary offered is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

School of Art
The School of Art is looking for a full-time lecturer in Illustration, who can teach both beginning and advanced illustration courses emphasizing editorial image making. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have experience in teaching watercolor painting at the college level with a focus on observational and representational strategies. The full-time lecturer will also serve in an advisory role as the program’s BFA exhibition coordinator each semester, and will need experience in the jurying process, student portfolio review and advising, and exhibition installation. An understanding of contemporary illustration practice, knowledge of professional practices, and a strong visual imagination are essential to the program’s core philosophy
The School of Art is dedicated to its mission of creating a comprehensive art school experience within the context of a large publicly funded state university. At the undergraduate level, we provide a diverse population of over 1,500 aspiring artists and art scholars with access to affordable, quality education combining a broad-based liberal arts collegiate experience with a firm historical, theoretical, and foundational art curriculum. At the graduate level, our degree programs are designed with a dual emphasis on tailoring programs of study to individual students while fostering shared experience among a community of graduate students. Our faculty is committed to the belief that an education in the visual arts and related scholarship can be grounded in tradition while geared toward innovation; can foster both discipline-centered and interdisciplinary activity and discourse; and can achieve a fusion of informed dialogue, practice, and production.
Required Qualifications: - M.F.A. in Illustration or a record of substantial creative/professional achievement in a relevant discipline/field. Degree at time of application or official notification of the completion of the degree by August 1, 2024. Substantial creative/professional achievement as demonstrated by portfolio of work and C.V.
- Awareness of diverse traditions, histories, philosophies and professional practices in the field of illustration, and the ability to incorporate this awareness into instruction
- Demonstrated effectiveness in image-making in the areas of illustration, drawing, and/or painting with a strong visual imagination
- Familiarity with industry standard software applications relevant to illustration and the applied arts
- Active creative/professional practice as demonstrated by portfolio of work and C.V.
- Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching visual art at the college level for at least five years with an emphasis on illustration
- Experience in the following: undergraduate portfolio review, senior exhibition jurying, student advising, committee work, or other service
- Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population
Preferred Qualifications: - Demonstrated excellence in professional achievement
- Experience in industry standard software applications relevant to illustration
- Evidence of success in teaching editorial illustration (beginning and advanced), and watercolor painting
- Knowledge of an entrepreneurial approach to illustration
- Knowledge of color theory and its application to the field of illustration
- Demonstrated experience working with undergraduate and graduate students in a broadly defined program
Duties: - Teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in the discipline program within the School of Art [Mode of instruction may include in-person, hybrid, online, and/or any combination thereof.]
- Mentor and advise students in the Illustration Program
- Engage in student outreach through involvement in student activities, portfolio reviews, etc.
- Assist in recruitment of part-time faculty, technical staff and student assistants, and review and supervision of technical staff and student assistants
- Act as program liaison with professionals in the field
- Participate in service to the School of Art, college, university, community, and scholarly/creative/professional field
