The Position

Mental Health Counselors provide counseling, case management, direct clinical services, community and home based services, and behavioral and human services to mentally ill, developmentally disabled and/or emotionally disturbed clients in an outpatient, residential, community or similar setting.

Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. The Nevada Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) is recruiting for a Mental Health Counselor II for the Wraparound in Nevada (WIN) program in Las Vegas. This is a full-time position that includes a variable work agreement with overtime after 40 hours in a week. This position conducts assessments, for children and youth, utilizing evidence-based treatment practices, to assist in service delivery and in determining eligibility for services and appropriate course of treatment at the least restrictive level possible.

Incumbents review records, complete assessments, prepare treatment plans, and provide clinical programmatic support. This position may also provide ongoing evaluation and assessment of program goals, objectives, and activities; conduct or participate in consultation; data collection and analysis; assist in the development of training and outreach for agency staff and service providers to educate on children's mental health issues. The Mental Health Counselor II works within the Nevada System of Care and adheres to System of Care values and principles. While this position is located in Las Vegas, duties are required statewide. Licensure in the State of Nevada as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Psychologist, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, or Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment; or Post-Graduate Internship approval by the appropriate State of Nevada licensing board as a Clinical Social Work Intern, Marriage and Family Therapist Intern, or Clinical Professional Counselor Intern is required within the first 90 days of hire and as a condition of continuing employment. To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Master's degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, marriage and family therapy, psychology, social work or closely related academic field and two years of post-master's degree professional mental health counseling experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and clinical experience at or above a Master's degree and experience as described above. Special Requirements A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. Licensure or certification as a Mental Health Counselor, Certified Counselor, Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist, Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, or Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor issued by the appropriate licensing or certification authority is required at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Moderate travel is required. A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation.
