Job Summary TITLE: Wastewater Reclamation Plant Operator III, WRP 7 SRN A32: $6,758 - $9,277, Monthly, Non-Exempt Bargaining Unit: CVWDEA DEPARTMENT: Operations Section: Sanitation REPORTING RELATIONSHIP : Reports to : WRP 7 Supervisor or Shift Supervisor Supervises the following positions : N/A Promotional opportunity procedures will include the following: Review of minimum qualifications Review of personnel file, including but not limited: attendance history, disciplinary history, and performance evaluations Testing/ Assessments: Oral Interview(s) DEFINITION : Under general supervision, performs the most difficult operational and maintenance work at the District Wastewater Reclamation Plant, and performs repair work on facilities when required. May supervise a shift or have supervisory responsibilities for the reclamation plants in the absence of higher level operators. Performs related duties as required. Essential Functions EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS : Is responsible for the operation of the more complex treatment units and processes within the reclamation plant.May be required to assign, direct and review the work of assigned shift personnel for the operation and routine maintenance of wastewater reclamation equipment.Assists the shift supervisor with the planning, coordinating and scheduling the overall plant operation during assigned shifts. Adjusts operating schedules, reviews laboratory test results and initiates changes to be made.May perform the duties of Wastewater Reclamation Plant Supervisor, Wastewater Reclamation Plant Assistant Supervisor, or the Wastewater Reclamation Plant Shift Supervisor.Interprets operating data and makes the more complex operating adjustments. Computes plant flows, utilizing a calculator and accurate samplings of influent, effluent and mixed liquor.Ensures proper inspections of plant operations are made and provides guidance in locating and correcting operational problems. Collects various water and sewage samples, performs laboratory analysis and on-site analysis.Ensures the proper operation and inspection of all non-potable water sites, and the Mid-Valley pump station. Leads operational staff in the field to ensure all operational tasks are performed safely and in compliance with CVWD and OSHA standards and rules. Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : License/Certifications : Valid California Operators license issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles. Department of Motor Vehicles driving record may influence employment or classification. AND Possession of a Grade III Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certification issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board, as issued through procedures established by the Board. Failure to comply with certification requirements may influence employment or classification. Education and Training: High School Diploma or Equivalent is required. Any combination of training and experience which would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be to have three (3) years’ experience in wastewater treatment plant operation with at least one (1) year comparable to that of a Wastewater Reclamation Plant Operator II in the Coachella Valley Water District. Certificates, Licenses, Registration and Other Requirements PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 1. Drives District vehicle to job sites, including over rough terrain. Driving: Light 2. Communicates effectively both in person and over a two-way radio. 3. Works in extreme weather conditions including heat and rain. May work in areas containing dust, fumes, chemicals and vapors. 4. Work in confined spaces. Must be able to wear SCBA equipment. 5. Works rotating shift including nights, weekends, and holidays. 6. Pass an annual Hazmat physical and become Hazwoper certified as a first responder within 12 months of employment.
