Job Location: Selected candidate may report to work at MoDOT Project Offices in Jackson, Sikeston, Park Hills, Willow Springs or Poplar Bluff. Why you’ll love this position: The assistant district bridge engineer assists the district bridge engineer in performing federally mandated inspections on state and locally owned bridges and culverts within the district, including planning, scoping, maintenance work planning, and providing guidance to the region's bridge maintenance personnel. Responsibilities are performed under general supervision. Coordinates, schedules, and performs safety inspections on bridges and culverts to evaluate maintenance needs and assign condition and appraisal ratings. Performs bridge and culvert inspections, including routine, in-depth, fracture critical, special, and underwater. Prepares reports and correspondence, maintains and updates inspection-related data in the department's Transportation Management System database for all structures, and collects data on new locally owned structures. Assigns bridge maintenance work to district maintenance crews. Serves as a technical resource for bridge-related issues on locally owned and state owned structures. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university curriculum. Licensed as a Professional Engineer in the State of Missouri Must be either certified as a Team Leader for bridge inspections or meet the requirements to become Team Leader certified, in accordance with 23 CFR 650.309 within 6 months of hire. Five years of structural experience in highway or transportation engineering, including at least two years related to bridge design, inspection, construction, or maintenance. Successful completion of a range of motion examination and a medical-physical examination. Special Working Conditions: Job requires regular travel within the district. Job requires occasional statewide and out-of-state, overnight travel. Job requires exposure to physical hazards, health and safety risks, and/or adverse or otherwise undesirable characteristics in the environment.
