Who We Are:
The Internal Services Department (ISD) plays a major role in supporting all County of Los Angeles departments and commissions. With an annual budget of over $885 million and 2,162 budgeted positions along with over 5,120 contracted workers of varying professions in facilities management, information technology, environmental, administrative, purchasing and contracting, ISD is the County's trusted partner and provider of choice.

Essential Job Functions

What You Will Do:
  • Supervises and reviews the work of personnel engaged in processing and distributing United States and County mail, legal documents, court exhibits including welfare and probation case history files, children services files and cases, payroll warrants, cash, and negotiable instruments, maps, plans and books.
  • Prepares and monitors driver route schedules and oversees mail operations (e.g., sorting of mail, use of a Personal Digital Assistant, and customer services).
  • Inspects vehicles under preventative maintenance standards and coordinates maintenance required beyond the preventative standards.
  • Supervises the metering, stamping and registration of outgoing United States mail, including registered and insured mail and parcel post.
  • Confers with departments regarding requests for new or additional services and investigates service complaints.
  • Prepares and/or evaluates mileage, automotive accident, industrial injury, and operational reports of drivers.
  • Assists in checking existing routes and schedules for safety hazards or possible revision to improve service.
  • Prepares performance evaluations, schedules vacations, and resolves minor work and disciplinary problems.
  • Trains new personnel in departmental processes and procedures (e.g., Personal Digital Assistant and Global Positioning System usage; safety and lifting techniques, and re-routing methods).
  • Confers with immediate supervisor in making recommendations concerning personnel and equipment needs.
  • Drives a County vehicle to deliver or pick-up mail on established routes or carry out special requests.
  • Prepares and conducts monthly safety meetings.


Requirements

Minimum Requirements:
Two years of experience in the routing, delivery, or distribution of mail or supplies.

License:

A valid California Class C Driver License is required to perform job-related essential functions.

Successful applicants for positions that require driving must obtain and present a copy of his/her driving record from the California State Department of Motor Vehicles before final appointment. Applicants should not present a copy of their driving history until asked to do so by the hiring department. The County will make an individualized assessment of whether an applicant’s driving history has a direct or adverse relationship with the specific duties of the job. License must not be currently suspended, restricted, or revoked.

Physical Expectations:
Physical Class III - Moderate: This class requires that the incumbent stand or walk most of the time with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, occasional lifting of objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.

If you meet the requirements, we will invite you to a structured oral interview weighted at 100% covering training and experience, safety practices and procedures, problem solving skills, customer service skills, oral communication and general ability to perform the duties of the position.

You must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on the assessment in order to be added onto the list of eligible candidates.
