Position Summary: Oversees activities related to ensuring the safety and security of patients, staff and visitors. Duties include writing technical reports, developing policies, training and orienting staff, evaluating staff, making hiring and termination recommendations and performing Public Safety Officer duties when staffing requires. Job Requirement Education/Experience: Equivalent to graduation from high school and four (4) years of professional experience in law enforcement and/or security management. Licensing/Certification Requirements: Valid State of Nevada driver license. Meet firearm qualifications. Additional and/or Preferred Position Requirements Four (4) years of Public Safety Supervisory experience (within the last three (3) years) in a healthcare environment. Responsible for overseeing the daily and weekly shift schedule. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Physical Requirements Knowledge of: Modern theories, principles and practices of effective supervision; city streets and local highways and roads; security principles and practices; laws and regulations such as illegal activity; department and hospital safety practices and principles; infection control policies and practices; patient's rights; handling, storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials; department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures. Skill in: Reading, analyzing, developing, implementing and enforcing policies; investigating criminal activities; giving presentations and conducting training programs; perform basic mathematics; solving practical problems and interpret oral and written instructions; applying negotiation techniques and practices; restraining and calming combative and irate people; handling emergency situations such as bomb threats, hostage situations, gang violence and fires; writing technical reports; developing public relations with a variety of people; using equipment and tools such as radios, battery chargers, handcuffs, restraints, pepper spray and cameras; communicating with a wide variety of people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties; efficient, effective and safe use of equipment. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Mobility to work in a variety of environments and to use standard equipment, stamina to remain standing and/or walk for extended periods of time, vision to read printed materials and VDT screens, hearing and speech to communicate effectively in-person, over the telephone and over the radio. Strength and agility to exert in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
