Job Description

Full-time position available with the Water Department, Engineering Division, located at 4800 E 63rd St.
Salary Range: $6,489-$9,734/month
Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00a.m.-4:30p.m. with Telework available 1 day a week after 6 month probationary period.

Responsibilities

  • Performs administrative and supervisory activities managing and engineering multiple projects related to improvements to the water, wastewater and/or stormwater systems.
  • Performs professional engineering activities involving the planning, analysis, design, development, construction, renovation, maintenance or operation of utilities, assets and related projects.
  • Analyzes infrastructure systems, oversees planning activities, and manages engineering projects including development of construction and/or rehabilitation projects associated with stormwater, water, and wastewater assets.
  • Identifies and develops applications and work standards for improvements and efficiencies.
  • Provides assistance in changes to policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Performs frequent consultation with internal divisions, consultants, contractors, and other assets is required in the analysis, design, review of plans/specification, and inspection of construction work for compliance with prescribed engineering criteria.
  • Exercises good judgement to resolve technical problems, manage projects, and provide data for asset risk assessment criteria.
  • Provides Quality Assurance and Quality Control of contracts, construction plans, materials, and studies for adherence to Water Services rules and regulations.
  • Writes requests for proposals (RFPs) or qualifications quotations (RFQs) for new projects and prepares emergency response memos.
  • Verifies conformance of the plans and specifications prepared by design professionals and submits Project Status Reports (PSRs).
  • Reviews submittal materials used and related data.
  • Perform design, as well as drafting and computational duties in the office in preparation of studies, final plans, and specifications for projects.
  • Proposes changes to the standard specifications.
  • Interprets and applies City ordinances, state and federal regulations, specifications, and related standards to projects.
  • Coordinates with multiple stakeholders and the public.
  • Assists operations staff when issues arise.



Qualifications

REQUIRES 2 years progressively responsible experience as a Registered Engineer. Within 6 months of hire date, must be registered as a Professional Engineer with Missouri Board for Architects, Professional Engineers, Professional Land Surveyors, and Professional Landscape Architects.

For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
