The Position

Staff Associate Engineers perform professional engineering assignments not requiring licensure by the State Board of Professional Engineers & Land Surveyors.

Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.

Staff Associate Engineers perform professional engineering assignments not requiring licensure by the State Board of Professional Engineers & Land Surveyors. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others. Staff 2, Associate Engineers perform a wide variety of professional engineering functions not requiring licensure by the State Board of Professional Engineers & Land Surveyors. This position is located in Carson City within the Road Design Division. The Incumbent will develop contract plans to construct roadway projects throughout the State. Duties include producing computer aided drafting drawings (CADD) that represent roadway cross sections, freeway interchanges, roundabouts, sidewalk, traffic control, striping, and special construction details. Staff 2 Engineers establish roadway geometrics using design standards set by AASHTO, FHWA, MUTCD and NDOT policy. Staff 2 Engineers will work within a team to complete a contract plan set; the incumbent will be assigned tasks such as calculating quantities, developing estimates, and producing CADD drawings. Staff 2 Engineers will coordinate and communicate with other NDOT Divisions to incorporate other engineering disciplines within the contract plans. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others. To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or closely related engineering field and two years of professional engineering experience; OR Certification by the Nevada State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors as an Engineer Intern, and two years of professional engineering experience in civil engineering or closely related engineering field; OR two years of experience as a Staff I, Associate Engineer or Supervisor I, Associate Engineer in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Notes Employees in this class who are not registered professional engineers may not represent themselves as such to other persons or entities. Special Requirements A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, some positions in this series have been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in these positions must submit to pre-employment screening for controlled substances. This position requires travel to remote locations throughout the State, often with overnight stays. A valid drivers license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
