What You'll Be Doing

The Wake County Health and Human Services School Health Program provides school health services for all students attending Wake County public schools. The program consists of 112 school nursing positions. Each nurse serves 2 Wake County Public Schools. School nurses are responsible for providing school health services for a combination of preschool, elementary, middle and/or high schools in the Wake County Public School System. Nursing care is provided via delegation to unlicensed assistive personnel. The School Nurse provides consultation on communicable disease, and medication administration in the school setting. This position also provides case management and chronic disease management for students.

School nurses work 8 hours per day and are expected to be present in their schools during the hours students are present. This school nurse position will serve two schools in the Wake Forest/Rolesville area.

**Must have valid NC driver's license and reliable transportation**

School nurse responsibilities include:
  • Nursing assessment
  • Development, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care plans
  • Training and supervision of school staff
  • Delegation of nursing task to unlicensed assistive personnel
  • Collaboration with school staff, physicians, families, and community partners
  • Case management and care coordination for students with chronic medical conditions
  • Vision rescreening, referral, and follow-up

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

  • Graduation from an accredited school of Nursing
  • No specific experience required
  • North Carolina Board of Nursing Licensed Registered Nurse
  • CPR
  • AED
  • Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)

  • 2 years or more of school health nursing, pediatric nursing or public health experience
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing
  • Spanish language skills
