The Department of Public Works, Solid Waste Management Division (SWMD), is recruiting for Scale Operations Supervisors II who supervise a staff of Scale Operations Supervisors and Scale Operators responsible for the processing transactions, entering data for all materials received or transferred, collection of fees, control of wastes entering County disposal facilities and maintenance of scales and scale facilities.

Duties include supervising staff, managing recruitment, enforcing policies, overseeing safety protocols, and maintaining disposal site operations. Additionally, responsibilities include managing funds, facilities, and budgets, as well as handling customer relations, complaints, and staff performance.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Availability: Positions are subject to emergency callbacks and may be assigned to various work locations without advance notice, based upon departmental needs. Incumbents are regularly assigned a 9/80 schedule including weekends and holidays and are subject to working extended hours to meet department needs.

Physical: Incumbents regularly walk, stand, bend, squat, and frequently work near equipment on rough, uneven, rocky, or slippery surfaces. Employees are frequently exposed to dust, gas, noise, odors, and extremes in temperature and humidity.

Travel: Regular travel throughout the County is required for all assignments. Incumbents will be required to drive in extreme weather conditions. Must possess and maintain a valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance.

Minimum Requirements

Experience: Two (2) years of full-scope supervisory experience at a landfill or transfer station, which included responsibility overseeing, implementing, and monitoring an annual budget; using a scale operations or transfer station management software system; and responding to inquiries and complaints.

Desired Qualifications

Proficiency with Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, Outlook) is highly desirable.
