This position is with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Division of State Parks, and will be located at Cuivre River State Park 678 State Route 147, Troy, Mo. 63379. Typical work schedule will be Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm with a 30 minute lunch break. Rotating weekend, night and holiday shifts will be required in both the on and off season.

  • Actively participate in the natural resource stewardship at the facility, including exotic species control, monitor animal populations, and participate in prescribed fire program.
  • Determine need for and lead ecosystem restoration programs.
  • Survey, assess, and make recommendations for natural resource management.
  • Conduct scientific research to diagnose problems.
  • Research, organize, present results, and prepare records and reports.
  • Educate and enforce park/site rules and regulations.
  • Work with multiple departments and inter-agencies on the state and federal level.
  • Work with and lead, supervise and direct volunteer and temporary workers in the areas of resource stewardship and both on and off site interpretation and glade and fire line prep work.
  • Participate in meetings, workshops and seminars requiring overnight stays.
  • Providing information clearly and professionally and guidance to park/historic site visitors and staff.


This position may be required to obtain and maintain licenses and/or certification as needed that may include commercial operator’s license, water/wastewater certifications, S130/190 Fire Training for prescribed burns.

  • Stewardship : Basic knowledge of the concepts, principles, and theories of natural and cultural features along with special ecological stewardship requirements; capable of gaining experience in performing stewardship tasks required for strenuous outdoor work; ability to appear before the public, makes clear and convincing oral presentations; give out general information, conduct interpretive educational programs and conduct tours about natural and cultural history in an effective way; assist in supervising, recruiting, training and evaluating seasonal and volunteer staff.


Equivalent to those typically gained by:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Biology, Ecology, Zoology, Botany, Forestry, Wildlife Management, Natural Resource Management or related field and 5 years of relevant experience in natural resource management, scientific research methods and applications, or field identification of flora and fauna. (Substitutions for additional education or experience may be allowed)
  • Ability to operate a vehicle and maintain a valid vehicle operator’s license.
  • Ability to walk long distances on uneven terrain in all kinds of weather and environmental conditions and have the ability to lift 25 pounds with or without an accommodation.
