INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT TECHNICIAN II

SALARY INFORMATION

In addition to performance-based merit increases, this position is scheduled to receive salary range increases on the following dates:

Effective June 28, 2024 - 4.00% increase
Effective June 27, 2025 - 3.75% increase

Salary may be negotiable within the range listed above, based on position requirements and successful candidate's qualifications, subject to appropriate authorization.

This recruitment may also be used to fill positions in similar and/or lower level classifications throughout the County of Orange.

THE OPPORTUNITY
OC Environmental Resources is looking for an experienced Integrated Pest Management Technician II to inspect assigned areas for rodent presence; select and apply rodenticides, insecticides and herbicides; and monitor progress. This position also performs duties such as:

  • Calculates correct portions of pesticides according to label directions, environmental conditions, and areas to be treated
  • Applies rodenticide and monitors progress of rodent control program
  • Sets traps to eradicate rodents
  • Operates and maintains application equipment, power tools, safety equipment, and vehicles
  • Maintains logs and records of rodenticide inventories, vegetation control operations, work completed, timekeeping records, and equipment used

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & CORE COMPETENCIES:
The successful candidate will posses two (2) years of experience as an Integrated Pest Management Technician I in the County of Orange or equivalent. In addition, the ideal candidate will demonstrate the knowledge and experience in the following core competencies:

Technical Knowledge
  • Rodents, pests, and vegetation indigenous and introduced to the area
  • Rodent and pest control habits and reduction/eradication control techniques requiring the use of traps, gasses, baits, and other techniques
  • Methods and procedures used in mixing and applying pesticides for weed, rodent and insect pest control and for setting rodent traps
  • Some knowledge of operation and adjustment of pumps and pressure regulated spray equipment
  • Perform manual labor duties

Safety Practices
  • Safe work practices relating to the use of hand and power tools, pesticide applicators, compressors, pumps, and related equipment
  • Safety precautions required to protect personnel and property from damage or destruction through the use of pesticides and related chemicals
  • Follow safe work policies and procedures
  • Read, understand, and comply with written and verbal instructions, labels, laws, and technical regulations pertaining to vegetation, rodent, and pest control

Analytical Skills
  • Evaluate conditions of area to be treated and determine appropriate pesticides and control techniques
  • Make mathematical calculations to determine correct proportions and amounts of chemicals
  • Evaluate effectiveness of control techniques applied and determine need for further treatment of area

Communication & Organizational Skills
  • Maintain logs and records of pesticide inventories and storage, pest control operations, timekeeping records, vehicle and equipment usage, and related reports and records
  • Work independently and schedule activities to meet time frames
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers and the general public

REQUIRED LICENSES

Possession of a valid California Driver License, Class C, before date of appointment, is required.

Possession of a Qualified Applicator Certificate or License (QAC or QAL) issued by the State of California is required. Please attach a copy of certificate or license when applying.
