    THE COUNTY OF EL DORADO

    DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION

    The County of El Dorado , Department of Transportation is responsible for funding, designing, building, operating, and maintaining the County Road System. El Dorado County's Road System currently consists of approximately 1083 centerline miles of paved roadway, 76 bridges, a multitude of storm drainage systems, and related transportation facilities.

    The Department of Transportation has two main priorities:
    1. Ensuring that our roads are safe for public use with due care in a manner in which it is reasonably foreseeable that they will be used, and
    2. Preserving and maintaining the public's multi-billion dollar investment in our roads, bridges, and other facilities.

    MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS DIVISION
    The Maintenance and Operations Division is composed of Road Crews, Fleet Services, Equipment Mechanics, and Traffic Control Crews. This dedicated team manages the repair, maintenance, and replacement of existing County roadway and drainage infrastructure. It is also responsible for the maintenance of all 1083 centerline miles of roadway in the County.

    THE OPPORTUNITY

    Join the Department of Transportation as a Fleet Services Technician. Under general supervision, inspects, services, lubricates, cleans and fuels County motor pool vehicles; schedules and dispatches motor pool vehicles and maintains records; maintains parts inventory; repairs, maintains, and fabricates work as assigned, and performs basic office duties.

    The selected candidate will have the opportunity to:
    • Perform preventive maintenance work on the County's automotive fleet; inspect, add and/or change fluid levels in brake, steering, and other systems; inspect vehicles for operating condition and safety problems; coordinate mandatory safety inspections; troubleshoot and complete minor repairs, and report problems to mechanics.
    • Change fuel, oil, and air filters; change engine, transmission, coolant and other fluids.
    • Inspect and replace belts, hoses, bulbs, wipers and other parts; test, add fluids, replace and/or change batteries, starters, and alternators; troubleshoot and repair electrical problems.
    • Inspect and adjust brakes; may remove, repair, and replace tires and wheels; repack wheel bearings.
    • Schedule and dispatch vehicles to user departments; document service requests and problems; schedule vehicles for service; contact and arrange for vendor services; resolve vehicle problems with vendors, and mechanics regarding cost and time frames; maintain current vehicle recalls, including scheduling appointments with vendors and arranging with departments for vehicle compliance.
    • Order, receive, price, store, and maintain an inventory of parts, supplies, and accessories for both shop and office; track availability, cost, and delivery times; prepare and maintain various records such as vehicle usage, mileage, ser vice, and repairs and billings.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Education & Experience Requirements (typing "See Resume" in the application will not be accepted).

    Where college degrees and/or college course credits are required, degrees and college units must be obtained from a regionally accredited college or university. Courses from non-regionally accredited institutions will not be evaluated for this requirement.

    Fleet Services Technician I: Two years of experience in automotive servicing and repair.

    Fleet Services Technician II: Two years of experience in automotive servicing and repair

    AND

    One year of experience at a level equivalent to the County's class of Fleet Service Technician I or completion of a recognized apprenticeship in the vehicle repair trade.

    Licenses and Certifications:

    Must possess a valid driver's license. Must regularly lift and carry objects weighing up to sixty pounds.

    The County of El Dorado is recruiting applicants for Fleet Services Technician I/II. This recruitment will establish a list for the purpose of filling current and future full time, part time, limited term and extra help vacancies for at least three (3) months. In accordance with Personnel Rules 1103.1 and 1105.1, an extra help or limited term employee may be transitioned into a regular employee if the department in which the employee works has a vacant allocated position for the same classification as held by the extra help or limited term employee and the appointing authority requests such transfer.
