    Definition and Class Characteristics

    INTERVIEWS WILL BE HELD ON JULY 2 and JULY 3, 2025

    The Clerk of the Board Office is looking for a temporary Board Clerk to support Nevada County in both general and specialized administrative duties. This position requires in a high level of attention to detail and will be best filled by a candidate who can stay organized and will conduct themselves in a professional and welcoming manner with colleagues and constituents alike.     This temporary position is budgeted at 1,000 hours and will be offered medical benefits during Fiscal Year 25/26. The incumbent will be scheduled to work 40 hours per week for approximately 6 months or until 1,000 hours are reached.

    Examples of Duties

    A Board Clerk is an integral part of the Clerk of the Board team. This position involves working with the Nevada County community both in person and over the phone, coordinating and communicating with staff in all Nevada County departments, and assisting the Board of Supervisors in all types of administrative tasks. Just as essential, Board Clerks act to further local governance and preserve history by taking an active role in creating and editing vital documents, preserving Nevada County's historical record, and maintaining accessibility to the public archive. All tasks require a high degree of accuracy and thoroughness. A successful candidate will be driven to serve their community and will value neutrality, confidentiality, and positive working relationships.
    Daily duties may include, but are not limited to:
    • Document processing, review, and formatting of board resolution, ordinance, contracts, public record requests, and claims
    • Supporting committee, commissions, and Special Districts, including maintaining membership rosters and financial disclosure compliance
    • Assisting with day-of Board meeting production and setup tasks
    • Completing process-oriented tasks utilizing Microsoft Office and Legistar agenda management software
    • Customer service and communication in person, over the phone, and using a variety of written and virtual platforms
    • Assisting and training colleagues and staff on specialized processes and procedures
    • General administrative duties, including research, scheduling, and meeting preparation

    The Board Clerk II position is crafted for individuals who have a twelfth-grade education (or equivalent) and two years of administrative experience, plus one year of experience equivalent to a Board Clerk I. This is the journey level class in the series, in which individuals are responsible for more complex duties requiring a specialized set of knowledge and abilities. This class is flexibly staffed with the Board Clerk I.

    Sick Leave:

    Temporary County employees shall accrue at the rate of one (1) hour of sick leave for each thirty (30) hours worked. Temporary County employees can accrue a maximum of 80 hours of sick leave which may be carried over from one fiscal year to the next.

    Medical Benefits:

    Temporary employees whose assignments average 30 hours per week or more are eligible to enroll in County-sponsored medical benefits.

Summer temperatures are typically mild, with average highs near 85 degrees in July. Rain in January typically averages ten inches per year and the highest elevations receive an annual average of 206 inches of snow.

    Scenic trails, alpine lakes, the Yuba River and the Sierra Nevada Mountains all support numerous recreation activities, including skiing, biking, hiking, fishing, kayaking, hunting and backpacking. With a calendar packed with street fairs, festivals, art exhibits, local theater and children’s activities, visitors and locals can experience small-town life without having to forgo indulgence in pleasures more typical of an urban setting. 

     

    Arts and Culture:

    Nevada County is a creative hotspot in the Sierra Nevada, offering an array of experiences, including concerts, film festivals, street fairs, dance performances, poetry readings, studio tours and galleries. The county also has numerous venues for performing arts, many of which are historic settings. The arts have a large economic impact, which has become a vital component to life in Nevada County.
