    Full-time position available with the Municipal Court Department, Court Support Division located at 511 E 11th Street
    Salary Range: $18.37-$28.01/hour
    Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

    Responsibilities

    • Maintains order in Municipal Court and assisting municipal.
    • Assists judges and other court personnel in handling cases involving violations of municipal ordinances while performing computer-oriented tasks, and the possibility of physical exertion while taking individuals into custody.
    • Serves as a court bailiff at assigned court sessions and performing various tasks in connection with the Municipal Court operation.
    • Ensures the safety of the judge, court staff, defendants, and inmates during their appearance in court, the opening and closing of court, and assists as requested with preparing records and dockets for use in court hearings and rendering general assistance to municipal judges and other court personnel.
    • Performs duties according to well-established laws, rules, and procedures and requires independent judgment, tact, and discretion to accomplish assignments.
    • Uses computer programs daily.
    • The possibility of physical exertion exists in this position.
    • Work assignments are made by an administrative supervisor who periodically reviews work for adherence to established policy and procedures of court operations.
    • Serves as municipal court bailiff; calls court to order, maintains order while court is in session, and closes court sessions.
    • Protects and ensures the well-being of the judge, court staff, and defendants while in court.
    • Makes arrests as an officer of the court under the instructions of a municipal judge.
    • Supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of defendants taken into custody.
    • Transfers prisoners to and from court and to the Corrections Department custody when required.
    • Supervises and has full custody of inmates during their appearance in court.
    • Assists a municipal judge in preparing for court sessions and in the orderly processing of cases.
    • Serves summons, subpoenas, warrants, surrender papers, probation orders, and other court instruments as necessary.
    • Works on a computer daily to help process cases and enter documentation into court programs.
    • Performs related duties as required.



    Qualifications

    REQUIRES high school graduation and 3 years of progressively responsible, professional experience in contact with the public. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and post-offer physical examination as prescribed by the city. Must be eligible to become a special police officer with the KCMO Police Department.

    Positions requiring a high school diploma/GED certificate must be obtained from a school/program accredited by the Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.

    The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
    For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
    Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

    If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
