DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Houston Public Library (HPL) is seeking an experienced Senior Trainer to join the Community Engagement Team. HPL’s Community Engagement Team provides library services, technology access, and outreach services to underserved communities throughout the city of Houston via specialized mobile library technology lab and other vehicles. The team provides library services and access to technology to underserved communities throughout the city of Houston. Our most popular delivery mechanisms are our innovative Mobile Express Technology Labs. The mobile units facilitate technology training, outreach efforts, and increases the library presence to areas that may not have access to a library location. Our four specialty vehicles are supplemented by additional utility vehicles all used to deliver services to our customers in the various schools, churches, community centers, business that they reside and frequent.

The Senior Trainer will: - Plan and implement a full range of library services for children, teens, and adults.
- Participate in special projects as assigned. Perform other duties essential to efficient operation of the Houston Public Library.
- Act as project lead and senior staff member for curriculum development for all ages, ongoing activities, and special projects. Create documentation, training materials, activities, goals, and orders supplies for new curriculum and services. Provide “train-the-trainer” support.
- Provide daily technology training classes, offer direct support of outreach events promoting HPL products and services and extend customer service and response to customer's inquiries.
- Perform advanced reference service work, including responding to phone questions and in-person and email requests that range from ready reference to in-depth research, requiring extensive use of on-line databases. Interpret and teach use of complex indexes, directories, guides, business services, government documents in response to clients' information needs. Communicate findings to customers. Visit different service sites daily. Solicit and recruit new partners and events to support.
- Provide instruction and training regarding library services, policies, procedures, resources, technology, and computer usage. Provide district/unit community outreach by serving as a community liaison, attending community meetings, and representing the library at public events. Gather or collect information to create and develop reports, activity logs, training materials, programs, "how-to" instructions, etc.
- Coordinate library services for special populations including the visually and hearing impaired.
- Participate in outreach and programming events.
- Performs other duties essential to efficient operation of the Community Engagement Team.
- Requires frequent driving of a City of Houston vehicle as well as evening, weekend (Saturday and Sunday) and holiday shift work.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Position requires stooping and bending; lifting of library materials up to 20 pounds.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Requires a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Education, Personnel Management or a related field.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Three (3) years of professional personnel experience involving training in a formal classroom setting and/or the development of curriculum and lesson plans for adult learners are required.
Pertinent training experience on a professional level may be substituted for the above educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS A valid driver license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving (AP 2-2) preferred.
PREFERENCES PREFERENCES Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.** Prefer candidates with;
- Experience providing training to students of all ages
- Knowledge and skills with technology including iPads, gaming, 3-D printers, etc
- Proficient computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office;
- Experience working with people of diverse backgrounds;
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing;
- Experience working in a public library setting;
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with others;
- Experience working with children and families; and
- To better serve our diverse communities, fluency in a foreign language is highly preferred.
