    Position Summary

    San Diego State University is seeking a detail-oriented Accounting Technician III to join our Accounting Services team. Under the general supervision of the Manager of Accounting Services, this role is responsible for preparing non-student accounts receivable billings, performing complex reconciliations, and supporting general accounting functions in compliance with financial policies and procedures.

    Key Responsibilities:
    • Accounts Receivable Management: Prepare University non-student billings using the ASCOT system and generate associated reports.
    • Financial Reconciliation: Conduct complex reconciliations and analysis to ensure accurate financial records.
    • Accounting Practices: Apply GAAP and University policies in the classification and examination of financial transactions.
    • Analytical Support: Utilize advanced analytical skills to assess financial data and support reporting needs.
    • Record Maintenance: Maintain accurate and organized financial documentation for University funds.
    • Process Improvement: Recommend and implement best practices to improve financial procedures.

    Position Information
    • Full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position.
    • Position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.
    • Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
    • This position is approved for partial telecommuting with onsite work in San Diego.

    Education and Experience

    Equivalent to four years of progressively responsible financial record-keeping experience which has provided the above knowledge and abilities.

    Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities.

    Key Qualifications
    • Comprehensive knowledge of financial record-keeping, mathematical and general office methods, procedures, and practices.
    • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) with the ability to interpret and apply a wide variety of written rules and regulations.
    • Ability to maintain accounting records for funds, programs, or activities involving multiple transactions.
    • Ability to compile, verify, and reconcile financial data.
    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is preferred.
    • Working knowledge of accounting principles and financial systems in higher education and/or public sector industries; experience in student or customer accounts is preferred.

    Compensation: Salary is based on your experience, education, and qualifications, within the department’s budget and equity guidelines.
    • CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,166 - $7,312/month; hiring salary not expected to exceed $4,308/month.
