Position Overview: The Communications and Operations Specialist for the Office of the Governor is responsible for supporting strategic communications efforts while helping manage day-to-day operational functions essential to the administration’s effectiveness and responsiveness. This role requires a strong understanding of Missouri’s media and political landscape, experience working in high-paced government or public affairs environments, and a passion for serving the people of Missouri. This position will require exceptional communication skills, sound judgment, and an ability to manage diverse responsibilities across multiple areas.
- Key Responsibilities:
• Communications (60%)
o Draft, edit, and produce content for talking points, media advisories, press releases, social media, special letters, and executive correspondence.
o Support press engagement, including media monitoring, response coordination, and press conference logistics.
o Monitor Missouri and national news coverage related to the Governor’s priorities.
o Event photography and staffing responsibilities for in and out-of-office meetings and events.
o Collaborate with the Communications Director and policy team to develop and execute proactive messaging strategies aligned with the Governor’s agenda.
o Duties as assigned.
• Operations (40%)
o Assist with internal operations and logistical support for meetings, press events, community events, etc.
o Draft event briefings for the governor and senior staff.
o Prepare travel itineraries for the governor and senior staff.
o Staff the governor during in and out-of-office meetings, advancing events if necessary.
o Coordinating with event coordinators and the governor’s security detail to ensure events run smoothly.
o Duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Political Science, Public Affairs, Journalism, or a related field.
• Experience in public service, political communications, media relations, or operations in a governmental or fast-paced organizational setting.
• Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently while managing multiple deadlines.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with social media platforms and management tools.
• Familiarity with Missouri government, geography, and state policy issues is strongly preferred.
• Availability for occasional in-state travel and flexible hours, including evenings or weekends as needed.
