    The Position

    Bargaining Unit: Management - Mgmt Classes, Classified & Exempt

    Contra Costa County’s District 5 spans the county’s northern waterfront in almost its entirety. Thus, it is a demographically diverse district with constituents representing several cultural and language groups and many spoken languages. Working in District 5 will afford one the opportunity to engage with a diverse constituency, and address issues such as environmental safety, community health, services for the unhoused, children and family services, and more.

    • Assisting the Chief of Staff with staff supervision and coordination
    • Overseeing all constituent data management

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education: Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in public relations, business, communications, management, political science, economics, psychology, sociology, social science or closely related field.

    Experience: Four (4) years of experience within a public or governmental municipality which involved sensitive public issues and exposure to policy and budget review and interpretation, preferably serving a member of a Board of Supervisors.

    License: Possession of a valid driver's license may be required depending upon assignment to perform the essential job functions of the position.

    Substitution for Education: Additional years of qualifying experience may be substituted on a year-to-year basis for the required education.

    Desirable Qualifications:
    • Master’s degree preferred in public administration, social work, management or other social science field
    • Experience working in a public agency (particularly an elected office)
    • Knowledge of county governance structures

    This classification is EXEMPT from the merit system and is not subject to the guidelines set forth in the Personnel Management Regulations.

    CONVICTION HISTORY

    After you receive a conditional job offer, you will be fingerprinted, and your fingerprints will be sent to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The resulting report of your conviction history (if any) will be used to determine whether the nature of your conviction conflicts with the specific duties and responsibilities of the job for which you have received a conditional job offer.     DISASTER SERVICE WORKER

    All Contra Costa County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law. Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
