Job Description
PASTORAL COUNSELOR
Provide pastoral and spiritual care, emotional support and counseling to patients, families and staff at Fulton State Hospital. Provide pastoral and spiritual care, emotional support and counseling to patients who are incarcerated. Respond to referrals of patients, assess their spiritual needs and provide pastoral care and counseling in coordination with medical team. Provide crisis intervention services to patients as requested. Work collaboratively with clinical treatment teams to coordinate pastoral care activities without interrupting medical care. Participate in interdisciplinary clinical teams/committees to attend to patients, families and staff needs involving trauma, end of life, medical ethics, behavioral issues and related matters. Facilitate arrangements to enable patients to practice their spiritual beliefs while hospitalized. Provide interfaith spiritual and emotional care to patients and families with different religious beliefs. Develop and provide interdenominational worship services. Perform religious rites or arrange for appropriate religious leader to do so. Document pastoral care services provided in the electronic medical records as defined in Hospital's policies. Position requires Ph.D. Degree in Theology, Religion, Philosophy or closely related field. Also required are minimum 2 years of applicable experience as a pastor, chaplain or comparable position which includes providing pastoral and spiritual care to
population with serious medical conditions, including mental disabilities, as well as incarcerated people; providing interfaith spiritual and emotional care to population with different religious beliefs; and developing and providing interdenominational worship services.
