    Position Description

    Wynoochee Project Maintenance Technician performs skilled work in the maintenance, repair, and operation of the Wynoochee Hydroelectric Project facilities, equipment, fish handling and recreational facilities. Assures proper operation and maintenance of machinery, equipment, and facilities by performing various routine electrical, mechanical, plumbing, carpentry, fleet maintenance, janitorial, painting and welding work as required.
    The Wynoochee River Project is located 36 miles north of Montesano, Washington. Technicians will work a 10-day on/3-day off, 5-day on/2-day off, 4-day on/4-day off schedule and will be required to perform mandatory standby duty that provides 24-hours coverage for the project by at least one of the staff. Employees must live on site while on standby duty. Housing is provided at the project at no cost to the employee.

    Technicians will work outside in all weather conditions, day or night, in response to emergencies such as hydroelectric plant load rejections, flood operations, heavy fish runs, and heavy snowfall.

    Qualifications

    Graduation from high school or equivalent, certificate of completion from a technical vocational college in an electrical or mechanical trade or industrial maintenance technologies and three years of experience in electrical/mechanical maintenance duties at a hydroelectric plant or industrial facility.

    *Work experience may be substituted for education on a year for year basis.

    LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

    Valid Washington State Commercial Driver’s License, Class A, with tank endorsement and no air brake restrictions required before completion of probation with maintenance thereafter.

    Certification in the following areas must be obtained prior to completion of probation with maintenance thereafter: First-Aid; CPR; Automatic External Defibrillator; Flagging.

    Pass a written exam on flood watch and turbine/generator procedures before completion of probation.

    Be granted unrestricted respirator clearance prior to completion of probation with maintenance thereafter.

    Knowledge & Skills

    • Methods, equipment and materials used in mechanical and electrical maintenance and repair, construction, welding and metal fabrication, carpentry, plumbing, heating and ventilating systems.
    • Safe working clearances for energized conductors.
    • Perform high voltage switching.
    • Health and safety regulations.
    • Applicable laws codes, regulations, policies and procedures.
    • Mechanical, hydraulic and electrical principals.
    • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
    • Analyze situations accurately and adapt an effective course of action.
    • Work independently with little direction.
    • Work from blueprints, shop drawings, schematics and sketches.
    • Operate a computer terminal.

    This position is covered by a Labor Agreement between the City of Tacoma and IBEW 483. New employees must successfully complete a nine-month probationary period prior to obtaining permanent status in this classification.
