    The Job

    The Department of Public Health is recruiting for a Public Health Microbiologist I. Incumbents in this class serve under training conditions while participating in a California Department of Public Health (CDPH) mandated training program of up to six months in the Public Health Laboratory. Laboratory work is performed under close supervision while developing the experience required to perform at the fully qualified working level. Incumbents in the Public Health Microbiologist I class are eligible to apply to the Public Health Microbiologist II classification upon successfully completing the CDPH training program and passing the California Public Health Microbiologist certification examination.

    This is an unclassified extra help position which does not attain regular status and shall be considered at will throughout the term of employment. This position will participate in the County's Deferred Compensation Plan and does not earn any other benefits.


    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

    Work Location: The San Bernardino County Public Health Laboratory is located in Ontario, CA. Candidates must indicate their availability in the supplemental questionnaire .
    Working Conditions: Incumbents are routinely exposed to dangerous chemicals and infectious materials.

    Pre-employment process: Incumbents selected for this position must pass a background check which includes verification of employment history and education as well as a physical exam and drug screening.

    Visa Sponsorship: San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require Visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future. Candidates must be able to present their legal right to work in the United States at the time of employment.

    Travel: Travel throughout the County may be required and employees will be required to make provisions for such transportation.

    Minimum Requirements

    Certificate : Applicants must possess a valid Public Health Microbiologist Trainee certificate issued by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH).

    NOTE: Applicants must provide their CA PMT Certificate number in the supplemental questionnaire to be considered for this recruitment.

    Desired Qualifications

    Laboratory work experience is highly desirable.
