Current vacancy is with the Solid Waste Department located in Visalia. The anticipated life of the list is six months.Applications will be reviewed by Tulare County Human Resources & Development. As extra help positions become available, County departments with the job openings select the most qualified and appropriate applicant for the position available. The number of hours and duration of employment varies by each assignment. Extra help employees may work in a variety of County departments in locations throughout the geographic county area.
Extra help employees may not work more than 1,559 hours in any fiscal year from July to June. An extra help employee who mistakenly works in excess of 1,559 hours in a fiscal year does not become a probationary or regular employee. Applications will be active for six months. Typical Duties- Deal with the public in a friendly and courteous manner when giving information, directions and collecting fees.
- Determine disposal charges based on materials, weight, volume and type of vehicle.
- Measure vehicles and calculate volume and load amounts.
- Weigh loads using a digital electronic scale.
- Collect fees, issue receipts and balance daily cash.
- May assist with training employees in cash handling processes and the use of the County Waste Management software application.
- Prepare, process, review and make daily deposits and reports.
- Maintain vehicle logs and fee records.
- Explain fee rates and dump rules, and direct users to appropriate refuse sites.
- Inspect or reject refuse materials.
- Respond to questions and/or complaints or refers issue to the proper authority.
- Enforce site regulations.
- Prepare simple and daily reports.
- Assist with the preparation of the Scale House Manual.
- Responsible for the cleanliness and order of the scale house.
- Requests supplies.
Minimum QualificationsMinimum qualifications are used as a guide for establishing the education, training, experience, special skills and/or license which are required and equivalent to the following.
Education: - Equivalent to completion of the twelfth(12 th ) grade.
Experience: - One (1) year of full-time paid experience equivalent to a Refuse Site Attendant. OR two (2) years increasingly responsible experience involving the collection of money and dealing with the public.
Knowledge of: - Basic math sufficient to compute volume and fees accurately.
- Security precautions pertaining to collection of money.
- Simple record keeping methods.
- Basic computer usage.
Skill/Ability to: - Work and communicate effectively with people of various education and socioeconomic backgrounds by respecting beliefs, interpersonal styles and behaviors of both clients and co-workers.
- Operate contemporary office equipment inclusive of computer, keyboard, and all applicable electronic equipment.
- Read, understand and follow rules and instructions.
- Appropriately enforce rules and regulation.
- Provide clear and concise instructions.
- Complete assigned job duties in a timely and complete manner.
License or Certificate: - Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver's license.
DESIRABLE EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS - County dumping rules and the resolution pertaining to fees.
- Consistently categorize information through verbal interpretation.
