The Job
The Probation Department is recruiting a well organized, innovative, adaptable leader to be a part of the Food Service Department as a Food Service Supervisor who will plan, coordinate, and participate in food preparation in a juvenile detention facility, and to supervise the work of food service staff involved in these activities.
Duties include the following: plan, direct and supervise the work of food service staff in a County juvenile detention facility; assign, review and evaluate staff's work; hire and take disciplinary actions, as needed; write and sign work performance evaluations; work closely with the Food Service Supervisor II on issues pertaining to food operations, services and safety; and ensure operations and services are in compliance with state food service handling, delivery, safety, sanitation and training procedures.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Certification: Incumbents must obtain a ServSafe Certification within two (2) weeks of appointment.
Background Check: Prior to appointment, applicants must pass a background investigation which includes a fingerprint check and a polygraph test. Applicants must not have been convicted of a felony.
Shift: Applicants must be available for all shifts; incumbents will be required to work rotating shifts, or be on call for work, on weekends, holidays, and evenings, including mandatory overtime; refusal of assigned shift may result in removal from the list or termination.
Travel: A valid California Class C Driver License is required to carry out the essential job-related functions of this position. Mileage reimbursement and proof of automobile liability insurance must be maintained.
Work Schedule: Incumbents may be required to work weekends, holidays, and support rotating shifts.
Sponsorship: San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.
Minimum Requirements
Experience: Two (2) years of full-time institutional (e.g., correctional facility, school district, hospital) or large banquet (e.g., casino) food preparation and service experience which includes one (1) year of lead or supervisory experience.
Desired Qualifications
College level coursework or certification in nutrition, food preparation, menu planning, or food service management is highly desirable.
