Maintenance Technician II

Overview

The Maintenance Technician II is responsible for a full range of work which includes installation, repair and modifications of structures and painting, flooring and ceiling.

Responsibilities

• Installs and repairs various tile floors, walls, and other surfaces in and around buildings composed of vinyl, wood, or ceramic material

• Repairs or removes damaged tile and adhesive or mortar, replaces damaged base material. Occasionally lays brick, cement blocks and structured glazed tile

• Locate roof leaks, cause, and extent of damage

• Installs metal gutters

• Selects the work method to be followed for repairs using a variety of roofing materials and accessories such as shingles, roofing, felt and asphalt

• Repairs or replaces sheathing, board, beams and joints

• Evaluates damages or inadequate insulation and determines whether to replace all or repair portions of the insulation

• Installs and repairs various doors, door frames, door closures, doorknobs, door levers and emergency push doors

• Installs or hangs TVs and white erase boards

• Installs, plans, and coordinates suspended ceiling tile applications. Lays out grid areas for ceiling tile installation

• Removes, builds, and repairs walls based on customer specifications

• Paints different types of structures such as wood, sheetrock and metals

• Performs basic carpentry skills on various surfaces of interior and exterior components of the building and other structures by mechanically and chemically removing old paint and rust, filling cracks, sanding and applying fillers and base coats

• Washes and sands surface as necessary, and treats them with oil, turpentine or other preparation

• May be asked to perform other duties as assigned

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work

• Non-Exempt-Full-Time- Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm

• Must be available to work additional hours as needed

• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement

• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

Qualifications

• High School Diploma / GED

• Three (3) years of experience

Licenses and Certifications

Required

• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
