Overview
The objective of this position is to maintain and mow the City's developed and undeveloped parkland, facilities, right of ways, and beaches. The principal function of the position is to operate various types of machinery and tools to include Trucks, utility carts, trailers, tractors, Zero Turns Mowers, operating weed-eaters, chain saws, brooms, shovels, picks, Lopping Shears, backpack blowers, backpack sprayers, pole saws, rakes, and trash grabbers to achieve park maintenance standards. This position exists because of the City's responsibility to maintain City developed and undeveloped parkland, facilities, right of ways and beaches.
Responsibilities
• Collect litter/large debris/animal carcasses/tree limbs from parkland, facilities, right of ways and beaches
• Sanitize restrooms and restock toilet paper, soap, and hand towels
• Troubleshoot/Report any clogged toilets, urinals, drains, leaking water lines in/or around restroom facilities
• Report any standing water or foul odors around septic tank systems
• Operate a zero-turn riding mower, Standup mower, push mower, tractors in different terrains and slopes
• Safely load and unload mowers, and/or other equipment onto and off trailers
• Operate gas/electric equipment to weed eat and/or edge around sidewalks, fences, trees, shrubs, poles, signs, guardrails, inlets, meter boxes, and alleys
• Operating gas/electric blower to blow grass clippings and other miscellaneous debris off sidewalks, street curbs, parking lots and/or playgrounds
• Operate gas/electric equipment to trim trees, shrubs and/or grind tree stumps
• Operate gas/electric equipment to excavate earth using auger, and/or skid steer
• Operator must be able to safely operate a work truck and trailer, abide by City and Department rules and regulations on operating City equipment
• Able to properly hook up and detach a trailer by themselves and make sure the brake lights are operating properly
• Able to drive work truck with trailer forward and reverse, negotiate turns in a safe manner without damaging trailer and/or tow hitch, drive passenger vehicles, utility vehicles and maintenance equipment safely
• Excavate land using shovels, augers, and/or backhoe
• Install new or transplant plant life such as trees, shrubs, and/or flowers
• Complete application and distribution of compost and mulch by hand, hand tools or powered equipment
• Set up and take down portable tents, chairs, tables, podiums, banners/signage, trash barrels, scaffolding, gym mats, lifeguard stands
• Remove graffiti using chemicals or pressure washer, apply paint to walls, ceilings, poles, playgrounds, meter boxes, accessories, and/or any other assigned locations using a roller/paint brush
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work
• Non-Exempt - Full Time
• Rotating and non-rotating work schedules are available; days and times will vary based on the location listed below
• Must be able to work additional hours as needed
• Mowing/Construction Crew: Non-Rotating - Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm
• Sanitation Crew: Non-Rotating Tuesday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm & Saturday 6:00am - 2:30pm or Monday - Thursday, 7:00am - 3:30pm & Sunday 6:00am - 2:30pm
• Tourist District: Rotating - (1 st week) Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm, (2 nd week) Tues/Wed/Thurs/Sat/Sun, 7:00am - 3:30pm
• Bayfront: Rotating - (1 st week) Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm, (2 nd week) Tues/Wed/Thurs/Sat/Sun, 7:00am - 3:30pm
• North Beach: Rotating- (1 st week) Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm, (2 nd Week) Tues/Wed/ Thurs/Sat/ Sun 7:00am - 3:30 pm

Minimum Qualifications
• Requires a High School Diploma/GED
• No prior experience
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds to move and deliver work material
• Must be able to walk for long periods and distances
• Must be able to work safely outdoors in all seasons and weather conditions
• Must be able to work around plant material such as trees, shrubs, bushes and grass
• Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel and climb to perform various maintenance functions
Licenses and Certifications
Required
• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Basis of Rating
A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
