    The Office of Cyber Security is looking for a highly motivated, Cybersecurity Technician to join our team of security professionals. In this role, you will be at the front lines of protecting the State's sensitive data by managing the sophisticated layers that sit between our applications and the internet.

    This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience with an advanced security stack. You will play a critical role in researching, deploying, and supporting high-tier solutions including On-Prem and Cloud WAF, Enterprise Load Balancers, and Reverse Proxy architectures. You will work alongside top-notch experts to ensure our digital services remain highly available, resilient, and secure against evolving global threats.

    • The salary indicated represents a base pay rate. If the individual selected or the position is eligible for a pay differential (e.g., shift, security, or years of service), it will be added to the total compensation in your paycheck. A pay differential does not raise your base pay.


    This position is with the Office of Administration, Information Technology Services Division (OA-ITSD) supporting the Office of Cybersecurity (OCS).

    • Architect and deploy high-availability load balancing solutions to optimize traffic distribution across server farms.
    • Configure and maintain Virtual Servers, Pools, and Health Monitors to ensure 99.9% application uptime.

    • Perform SSL/TLS offloading and certificate management on load balancers to reduce backend server overhead and ensure secure transit.

      Implement advanced traffic steering and Global Server Load Balancing (GSLB) for multi-site redundancy and disaster recovery.

    • Manage on-premises WAF appliances to protect internal applications from OWASP Top 10 threats and specialized exploits.

    • Administer Cloud WAF policies, including custom security rules, bot management, and DDoS protection layers.

    • Analyze and tune WAF alerts to distinguish between malicious activity and false positives, ensuring legitimate traffic flow.

    • Perform regular policy audits and signature updates to defend against zero-day vulnerabilities and emerging web threats.

    • Engineer and support reverse proxy configurations to provide a secure single point of entry for web applications.

    • Configure URL masking, header manipulation, and redirection rules to streamline user experience and enhance security.

    • Troubleshoot complex application delivery issues by analyzing proxy logs and performing packet captures (TCPDUMP/Wireshark).

    • Collaborate with application teams to implement custom iRules or scripts for sophisticated traffic handling and security logic.



    • Associate degree and 0-2 years of relevant experience.

    • Knowledge of Load Balancing functions, including the configuration of Virtual Servers, backend Pools/ Nodes, and custom Application Health Monitors.

      Knowledge of hybrid architecture management, utilizing a Cloud WAF for edge protection and on-premises WAF gateways for internal traffic inspection.

    • Knowledge of global traffic distribution strategies to ensure high availability across multiple data center locations.

    • Knowledge of Reverse Proxy configurations for SSL/TLS Offloading, including the management of encryption profiles and certificate lifecycles.

    • Knowledge of connection pooling and TCP optimization profiles to enhance server-side performance and reduce latency.

    • Knowledge of the NIST 800-53 security framework and its application to high-availability traffic management.

    • Skill in recognizing and responding to security intrusions-such as DDoS, SQL injection, and bot activity-using cloud analytics and on-premises security logs.

    • Skill in troubleshoot Layer 4-7 connectivity and handshake issues.

    • Skill in configuring Session Persistence (Cookie-based, Hash, or Source IP) to ensure application stability for stateful web services.

    • Skill in managing device clusters and failover configurations to maintain High Availability (HA) across the network infrastructure.

    • Ability to troubleshoot connectivity and performance issues across hybrid paths using packet-level diagnostics and TCP/IP analysis.

    • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects involving the migration or optimization of traffic delivery and security policies.

    • Successful background check results are required for employment in this position. This may include background checks involving a candidate’s name and/or fingerprints and other screenings as needed for the specific position.
