Job Description

The City of Irvine seeks an experienced Street Maintenance Technician to perform a variety of skilled street maintenance and repair tasks of public infrastructure forthe Public Works Department, including repair of the City's roadways, parking lots, curbs, gutters, sidewalks and drainage facilities. This position will identify areas needing repairs and may perform demolition, patching and overlaying, crack sealing of asphalt, back filling trenches and excavations.

The ideal candidate will possess great customer services skills, a positive attitude and maintain a high level of professionalism while performing tasks throughout the City. Successful candidateswillhave knowledge and experience in street maintenance related work with an emphasis in experience working with asphalt, concrete and traffic safety. The ideal candidate will have the ability to maintain accurate records of materials and work performed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities The following duties are normal for this classification. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

• Repairs asphalt roadways, parking lots,concrete curbs, gutters and sidewalks.
• Installs and repairs traffic control devices such as signs, and pavement markings.
• Maintains and inspects storm water drains, catch basins, pipes and culverts.
• Performs assigned maintenance, construction and repair tasks.
• May operate a variety of construction and maintenance equipment such as trucks, tractors, loaders, asphalt rollers, and lift trucks.
• Responds to inquiries from the general public. Purchases materials and supplies and maintains records.
• May perform emergency repairs of street and roadway infrastructure. Responds to emergency calls outside regular working hours and may be required to be on 24-hour emergency response (standby).
• May work a variety of changing shifts in order to meet the maintenance needs of the Department.
• Maintains knowledge of safe work practices with general construction tools, equipment and work area traffic control.
Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions High school diploma or equivalent with technical training in street construction and maintenance with two years street maintenance and construction experience, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.

A valid California Class A driver's license may be required depending on assignment.

THE DEPARTMENT

Public Works

The mission of the Public Works Department is to develop, build, and maintain public infrastructure by effectively administering and managing the design, engineering, construction and maintenance of City-owned streets, facilities, landscape, and other assets. This dynamic department employs 142 full-time staff members.

The Department is composed of nine divisions cooperating to create a highly effective team. The divisions include Administration, Signal Maintenance, Project Management, Environmental Programs, Development Engineering, Streets and Right-of-Way Maintenance, Landscape Maintenance, Facilities Maintenance and Fleet Services. Together these divisions provide essential services designed to meet City Strategic Business Plan goals.
