This is entry level professional work of average difficulty in the conduct of the City's personnel program.
 
An employee in this class participates in a variety of personnel activities in the City's central personnel office which includes participation in recruitment and assessment of candidates for employment with major emphasis on recruitment, assessment and selection of new employees, and  current employees for promotion. The employee works under general supervision and exercises some initiative and independent judgment in achieving objectives, planning work details and making technical decisions. Work is reviewed while in progress and upon completion by an assigned supervisor through direct observation, in conferences with the employee and evaluation of results obtained.
 
An employee in this class assists in employment activities, which may include preparation and publication of recruitment and promotional announcements, review of employment applications, approval/disapproval of applications, interviewing and counseling applicants regarding employment opportunities and job requirements, scheduling of applicants for testing, and administering and interpreting collective bargaining agreements between the City and its labor unions.

This job classification is in Management Category V for benefits purposes.

This job classification will be governed by the Personnel Rules, as it is not represented by a collective bargaining unit.

THE REQUIREMENTS:
1. Possess a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, with a major in personnel administration, business or public administration or other field related to personnel management.
2. Work experience in one or more of the following personnel activities may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the college requirement: recruitment, assessment and selection of employees; wage, salary and benefits administration; writing of position descriptions and classification of positions; employee relations; the research and development of personnel policies and procedures. 

At least one year of work experience must have included; recruitment,assessment and selection of employees. 

Preference: Experience handling recruitment and selection in a government setting is a plus.

 

THE EXAMINATION AND HOW TO APPLY:
Depending on the number of applicants and the quality of their education and experience, the examination may consist of one or more of the following tests: Evaluation of Training and
Experience, Oral Interview, Written Examination, or other assessment method. Applicants must attain a minimum score of 70 in each part of the examination in order to qualify. All successful applicants will be required to pass a medical examination, including drug screening, prior to appointment.

An eligible veteran who enters an open-competitive examination shall receive preference points added to the total passing score earned in the examination as provided for in the Florida Statutes. To obtain veteran's preference, candidates MUST submit a copy of separation papers and the City of Fort Lauderdale's veteran's preference claim form (J204) at time of application.
