This part-time, non-exempt Building & Grounds Assistant will maintain the building and grounds of the George Washington Carver Museum, Genealogy & Cultural Center and responsibilities include:
  • Cleaning the interior and grounds of the Museum and Center;
  • Maintaining the grounds and parking lot (picking up trash and reporting any repairs and/or incidents);
  • Preparing spaces for special events by setting-up and breaking down tables, chairs, and stage;
  • Assist with maintaining inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Create work orders to Central Maintenance.
  • Must be willing to learn the physical functions of a large building.

Physical Requirements
  • Tasks may involve bending, lifting, walking, carrying, or using a force equal to lifting up to fifty (50) pounds.

90 Day Provision for Additional Vacancy:

Pay Range

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two (2) years experience in janitorial and grounds maintenance.
  • Two (2) years experience with light maintenance repairs including plumbing and electrical.
  • Two (2) years experience painting interiors and some exteriors.
  • Two (2) years experience ordering janitorial/cleaning supplies and equipment.
  • One (1) year experience with cleaning floors (buffing, stripping, waxing) and using a buffer.
  • Experience in working and communicating in a diverse environment.

  • Experience climbing heights on ladders of 10ft and higher.

  • Ability to travel to more than one work location.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
1.Clean building interiors
2.Mix, stir, and pour chemicals
3.Perform grounds maintenance
4.Perform minor building maintenance and repair
5.Operate and maintain assigned vehicles and equipment
6.Set-up and tear-down exhibit halls and ballrooms in compliance with applicable local codes and procedures, ensuring the specifications and needs for each event are met
7.Perform minor construction work such as erecting partitions, building or tearing down walls, painting, building or erecting storage sheds
8.Perform routine administrative duties, complete forms, and prepare reports
9.Maintain inventory of materials and supplies, making purchases when needed
10.Handle and account for cash
11.Train new employees to perform basic job duties
12.Perform other duties as assigned
