    Distinguishing Features of the Class

    The Fleet Services Service Person performs various maintenance and custodial duties at the Fleet Services Facility. This position completes a variety of physical laboring tasks and semi-skilled work in connection with the Fleet Services operation, and performs related work as required.

    The assigned work hours for this position are flexible between the hours of 6:30am to 9:30pm, Monday through Friday. It is anticipated that this temporary position will last 4 months, and the employee will work 20 hours a week.

    Acceptable Experience and Training

    • Graduation from High School or possession of a GED; and
    • Some experience in lubrication of light and heavy equipment; or
    • Some experience in an automotive shop; or
    • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work.
      • Two or more semesters of formal diesel or automotive mechanic technology or related education.


    Required Special Qualifications

    • Candidates for positions in this class must pass a post-employment offer physical examination and drug screen.


    Examples of Essential Work (Illustrative Only)

    • Cleans automotive parts and steam cleans motors;
    • Lubricates, changes oil and other fluids and filters on a variety of City-owned equipment.
    • Changes and repairs tires on vehicles and equipment;
    • Washes and cleans vehicles;
    • Picks up and delivers vehicles;
    • Performs custodial duties in shop and office areas;
    • Assists mechanics, welders, and other skilled trades in performing maintenance and repairs to equipment;
    • Provides needed information and demonstrations concerning how to perform certain work tasks to new employees in the same or similar class of positions;
    • Keeps immediate supervisor and designated others fully and accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems;
    • Attends meetings, conferences, workshops and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on the principles, practices and new developments in assigned work areas;
    • Communicates and coordinates regularly with appropriate others to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities;
    • Performs other directly related duties consistent with the role and function of the classification.
